John P. Aaland Funeral Services Held On Monday

Funeral services for John P. Aaland of Northwood were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Goose River Lutheran Church. A service was also held at the farm home at 1:30 p.m. Rev. C.J. Field officiated and burial was made in the churchyard cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Dave Palmer, Ernest Stavens, Noel Thingelstad, O.O. Berg, W.L. Thompson, Ole Gronlie, Clark Enger and Osten H. Pladson. Active pallbearers were Olaf Midtbo, Olaf Nordbo, Rueben Sondreaal, Guy Midtbo, Marvin Nordbo and Andrew Pladson.
Mrs. Ted Thompson was at the organ. Special music was furnished by Mrs. John Mark and Rev. and Mrs. C.J. Field.
Mr. Aaland died of a heart attack at his home in Northwood last Thursday. He was born at Telemarken, Norway on August 1, 1898. In 1908 he came to this country, first living at Northwood, Iowa, and moving to Steele County in 1913.
He farmed in Newburgh Township, Steele County until last year when he moved into Northwood. He was married to Oline Midboe in January 1928. She passed away in 1948 and in Feb. 1956 he was married to Mrs. Olga Sondreaal Gaardsrud. Since then he had made his home in Northwood.
Mr. Aaland was a trustee of the Goose River Church and had served as township supervisor and a member of the school board.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Otto, of Hatton; two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Ruby) Palmer of Glenfield, N.Dak. and Mrs. Clifford (Jean) Megerdigian of Fresno, Calif., and eight grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. – Hatton Free Press, March 28, 1957
