A native of Palo Alto, Rick grew up on his family's silver fox farm once was located on the area which is now Manchester Court. Rick also worked as an Automotive Mechanic at the family owned Manchester Auto Repair at 3833 Middlefield Road.
After graduation from Palo Alto High School, Rick served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was awarded 4 bronze stars, The National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal.
Following his Army Service Rick returned to Palo Alto working with his Dad Floyd Manchester
Rick eventually took the Auto Repair business over as owner/operator from his Dad where he worked for many years.
