Charles Ackerman, 77, of Poplar, died Monday at Poplar Community Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1896, in Poplar. He grew up in the Fort Kipp area and later worked for the Great Northern Railway. In 1941, he moved to Portland, Ore., where he was employed in the shipyards for several years. He then went to work for the Great Northern in Portland. In Oct. 1963, he retired and in 1967 moved back to the Poplar-Wolf Point area where he had lived since.
He married Alice Shields on Nov. 8, 1920. She died last April.
Survivors include six sons, Randy of Oswego, and Virgil, Edwin, Frank, David and Mel, all of Portland; two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Jakab of Poplar, and Mrs. Alphie Faulkner of Portland; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Clark of Frazer; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial in Fort Kipp Cemetery.
