POMONA - John Abel, 76, Pomona, died Saturday in an Ottawa hospital where he was admitted Dec. 6. He was born Feb. 22, 1900 in the Ransomville community northeast of Williamsburg, the son of George and Katerina Abel, and spent most of his life in Franklin County. He lived in the Greenwood community before he loved to Pomona 12 years ago.
Mr. Abel was a dairy farmer before he retired about 12 years ago. He was a member of the Baptist Church in the Greenwood Community south of Pomona. He also was a member of the Franklin County Agricultural Committee.
He was married to Mildred Nichols April 12, 1920 at Ottawa. She survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nadine Abel.
Other survivors include a son, John R. Abel, Lyndon; 2 daughters, Mrs. Myrna Shepherd, Pomona, and Mes. Avis Henry, Harlington, Tex.; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary at Ottawa. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Pomona.
