Funeral services for Mr. Sam Abernathy, age 78 of Dickson, Tn will be conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2011 at 2 PM from the Walnut Street Church of Christ with his daughter, Lisa Moore giving his eulogy and Bro. Steve Baggett reading scriptures, giving personal remarks and having prayer. Place of rest is in the McEwen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Taylor Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 until 8 pm. Mr. Abernathy will lie in state at the church on Sunday from 1 PM until time of service. Those desiring memorials may be made to St. Jude's, Agape, Tennessee Children's Home, Potter Children's Home or to the Jerusalem Class of Walnut Street Church of Christ. Services under the direction of the Taylor Funeral Home.

Mr. Abernathy, businessman and founder of the Abernathy Feed Mills in McEwen and Erin died Jan. 19, 2011 at St. Thomas Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Humphreys County, he was the son of the late William David and Tommye Woffard Abernathy. He was a graduate of McEwen High School and Graduate of University of Tennessee Knoxville with a degree in agriculture. He served his country serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ where he attended the Jerusalem Class. He was a man of great faith, strong work ethic and had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

Survivors include His wife of 53 years; Bettye Burns Abernathy of Dickson, His Daughters; Lisa Moore and her husband, Johnny of Dickson, Lori Gorzny and her husband, Dr. Jan Gorzny of Dickson, Dr. Valerie Guenst and her husband, Dr. John Guenst of Nashville, and Veronica (Roni) Nylander and her husband, Dr. William Nylander of Nashville, His nine grandchildren; Jennifer, Anna, Stephanie and Margaret Gorzny, Sam and Ellen Moore, Paul, Joseph, and David Guenst, His Sister; Sarah Bell of McEwen, Tn and His Brothers; Bill Abernathy and wife Leah of Columbia and Johnny Abernathy and wife, Patsy of Killen, AL. Several cousins and friends.
