Mercedes "Cede" Abbott, 92, of Westridge St., passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Landsun Health Service Center.

Mercedes "Cede" Cootway Abbott was born in Wrightstown, Wisconsin on March 31, 1918, to Clarence W. and Leona (Riley) Cootway.

Cede grew up in Wrightstown, graduated from high school and then worked for her dad at the Cootway Milking Company until it was sold to Creamland Dairy's.

She then married Dr. John E. Abbott, DVM and they were stationed in Carlsbad with the Army/Air Force in 1940 and continued to live in Carlsbad after being discharged.

Mercedes was a homemaker always being there when we needed her. She will always be in our hearts with her jokes and laughter and her unconditional love.

Cede was preceded in death by her husband, both parents and a brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna J. Long of Albuquerque and Anne LaQuey of Carlsbad. Her grandchildren, the loves of her life, Shelley and Mark Thornberry of San Antonio, Texas.
