Donna Jean Duftywas born on May 19, 1944 in Washburn, WI to the late Jay and Mary (Adams) Dufty. Donna married Frank Romnes on December 18, 1965 at the First Congregational Church in Hayward and they enjoyed forty-five years together. Donna graduated from the Luther Nursing School in Eau Claire, WI in 1965. She served as the nurse for the Hayward Community Schools and for the Hayward Regional Hospice, retiring in 1998. Donna enjoyed being with her family, sharing memories, and searching her family's history, always looking for a lost relative. Donna was involved with the Sawyer County Historical Society, giving freely of her time and knowledge. Donna was also a facilitator with the Hayward area Community Grief Support Group.

Donna passed away at the age of 66, surrounded by her family, at her home on Thursday, February 24, 2011.

Among those who loved and shared her life are: her husband Frank Romnes, one son Christopher (Katie) Romnes of Hayward; one daughter Carrie Romnes of Newport, MN; a special niece Dondee Gorski of Hayward; cousin Virginia Colon of Lakewood, WA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Donna also shared her life with her two special dogs Maddie and Maggie. She was preceded in death by one sister Diane Gorski.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the First Congregational Church with Pastor David Benson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be Lloyd and Marlin Adams. Casket bearers will be Davey Adams, Gary Adams, Stanley Adams, Peter Johnson, John Moreland, and Tom Shuman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donna's name may be made to the Sawyer County Historical Society.
