Douglas C. "Doug" Anderson, 68, of Rapid City, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis.

A memorial service will be held Monday, March 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Pastor Kyle Reinhiller officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors.

Doug was born on July 20th, 1942 in Pierre SD to Helge C. and Opal E. Anderson. He grew up near Murdo, SD where he and his brother Clifford L. "Cliff" Anderson both helped out on the ranch. He graduated High School in Murdo in '59.
He was an active member of 4-H while growing up on the ranch, until joining the Navy, first from July of 1960 to 1963, then again from November 1965 to 1967. He married Wanda J. Styles on June 5th, 1965 in Draper SD, and lived in Murdo where they began their family of two sons and daughter; Jerrett, Jodie, and Shane.
Doug worked for The County, maintaining rural roads and equipment for Jones County, then for the Ford Motor Company until joining his brother to form Cliff and Doug's Auto Repair where he worked until moving the family to Sturgis, SD going to work for the FT. Meade VA Hospital, beginning in the Nursing Department and devoting time to the South Dakota National Guard, then transferring to the Engineering Department as a Motor Vehicle Operator/Mechanic, taking care of Veterans, where he retired in 2006.
He also found time to keep his family and friends' engines running, both large and small.
Doug loved the outdoors, spending time scuba diving, hunting, collecting guns, camping and motorcycling, all the while making lifelong friends whom he considered all to be his family.

Proceeded in death by his parents Helge C. and Opal E. Anderson and infant sister Marion Effie Anderson.
