Josephine Ann Abeln was born May 10, 1923 in Vivian, SD to John and Emma Abeln.
She attended school in Hill City and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1941.
On January 8, 1943, Josephine was united in marriage to Theodore Martin Byre at Rapid City. They made their home in Rapid City for a short time before moving to Kennebec to the family homestead.
Around 1950, the family moved to the Oacoma area and worked various jobs before starting the sanitation business in 1960. Josephine remained in her home in Oacoma until her time of death. She enjoyed crafting, reading, collecting Coke memorabilia, and her cats.
Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother to her own children and many other children in Oacoma.
Josephine passed away on October 29, 2005 at Mid Dakota Medical Center in Chamberlain at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 19 days.
Sharing in her life are her sons Randy Byre of Chamberlain, Ted Byre and wifeDonna of Oacoma, Marty
Byre and wife Deb of Chamberlain, Dave Byre of Oacoma, Bill Byre and wife Sandy of Oacoma; daughter Susan Eldridge and husband Bruce of Hamill; 7 grandchildren:
Doug, Lonnie, Bryan, Lucas, Jacob, Kami, and Craig; 6 great grandchildren: Dalton, Morgan, Edana, Nyomi, Brynn, and Braiden; 2 sisters Rosalie Wheeler of Rapid City, SD and Lorraine Aalseth of Billings, MT.
Preceded in death were her parents; her husband on April18, 1995; brothers Joe, Vince, Leonard, and Dutch; 2 sisters Al and Marge.
Josephine Byre, 82, of Oacoma will be Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 1:30 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Graceland Cemetery at Oacoma. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1 from 1 to 8 pm at the Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
