Henry Dixon Harp, son of Dr. Alfred Pleasant Harp and Rebecca Dozier West Harp, was born on 27 JUL 1851 and passed away 13 FEB 1922. He was one among eight children, three brothers having preceded him to the home beyond, also father and mother, leaving only three sisters and one paralyzed brother, Alonzo Harp. Brother Henry's wife, Sarah Francis Harp, died 14 MAR 1894, leaving him with nine children, most of them small. He never married again but kept all of his children with him until grown or married. They were all living and present at his funeral. He joined the Primitive Baptist Church soon after his wife's death when he had a stroke of paralysis and never walked again. For the last six months his sufferings were very great but he bore them without murmuring and was always very grateful for every kindness shown him. We feel he is now at rest in heaven with his dear wife, father, mother and three brothers, where there is no sickness or sorrows.
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on his gentle breast;
There is His love o'er shaded
Sweetly his soul shall rest.
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is still;
A place is vacant in our homes,
Which never can be filled?
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given
And although the body's moldering here,
His soul is safe in heaven.
