When Elmer was six, he was helping pull weeds in the garden, something many of us remember doing with our Mothers. Possibly pulling up flowers, but getting to feel helpful.
What we do not expect is a sudden storm taking the lives of children. At least three of the children in this family were struck by lightning, Elmer and his brother. Loyal Nelson passed away immediately after being struck by lightning.
The newspapers of the time were not optimistic about a third son and brother - Clifford Nelson - surviving the storm- so I am glad to be able to write that he did. He lived until 2008.
Headstone shared with brother Loyal.
