Jay was born April 20, 1940, in Hot Springs to Robert Olaf and Katherine Elizabeth (Winterberg) Aaberg. He grew up and attended school in Hot Springs and served in the United States Army from January 1957 until his honorable discharge in January 1963.
In March 1961 he married Wanda Mae Peters. He and his wife and children traveled extensively while Jay worked construction. He then went on to operate his own semi trucks and construction company. In 1994 Jay worked as a Civil Engineer building roads in Algeria. He spent his years of retirement enjoying family, friends and hobbies.
Jay took great pleasure in spending time with his family, playing music with friends and on his many hobbies, including working with horses, woodworking, flying, leather working, and jewelry making.
Jay is survived by his children, Robert (Myra) Aaberg; John D (Marni) Aaberg; Jodi (Steve) Provorse; Dawn (Randy) Johnson all of Hot Springs; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Tom Aaberg and his sister, Lorraine Larvie.
Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2011, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be 'Jay' grandchildren, Cody Aaberg, Levi Butler, Casey Aaberg, Wesley Johnson, Wayne Aaberg, Jake Johnson, Dustin Aaberg, Kelli Rhoe, Chelsey Kursave, and Haley Murphy. Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
