Jesse Bowers was a clergyman of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Jesse Bowers, who came from Frederick Co, Va., to Knox Co, in 1802, was educated for the ministry, and for over 20 years preached for the Methodist Church, traveling on horseback over a large circuit during pioneer days.
In Wheeling, West Virginia, he wed Lydia Grindstaff, a native of Washington Co, Penn. and they became the parents of 11 children, five sons and six daughters, namely: Rosanna, who first married Daniel Stone, and is now the widow of Joseph Drake; Abigail, wife of William Rigley; Amanda, who married Moses Grindstaff, and died in Licking Co, Ohio; Elias, who died in Knox Co, Ohio; Martha; Jeremiah; Lewis; Mary; Wesley; John N; and Philena, wife of Jackson Davis.

The parents both died, and are buried in Hartford Twp, Licking. During the latter part of his life, the former had mostly engaged in agricultural pursuits, and while he was engaged in preaching, his children operated the farm.
