Louise Naegele was born at Wirtenbury, Germany. She came to the United STates to join Gottlieb and the couple were married on December 2, 1887. The two oldest children were born in Germany when they returned to spend inheritance money. The couple settled in the Garland area upon their return in 1892. They were the parents of at least 15 children. The oldest daughter, Sophie, left home at an early age and never met her younger siblings. Two sons died in infancy and son Louis died of appendicitis at the age of 10. The other children were: Elizabeth (Gallagher), Marie (Westerhoff), Bertha (Fuehring), Lida (Miller), Bill, Fred, George, Jake, Ben, Henry, and Carl. When the children would reach the age of 10 or 11, they would go to the homes of neighbors to live and work for their room and board and schooling.

Around 1916, the couple moved to Seward to live in a house where the Hughes Brothers factory now stands. They lived there until their deaths. (from Seward County Nebraska, 1982- County Historical Society)
