He was born Oct. 17, 1944, to Cleve and Lelie (Young) Caruthers in Basile, La.
Claude was raised in Basile and graduated from Basil High School. He joined the USAF and proudly served his country.
Claude moved to Oklahoma 30 years ago and has lived in the Tribbey area for the past 23 years.
He married Wanda Edwards on Dec. 12, 1991, in Tribbey.
Claude worked in construction in his early years, later working at Lexington A & R Reception Correctional Facility as a guard for 14 years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 310 in Macomb and a Shriner. Claude was a First Responder, Certified Vision Tester and a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Tribbey Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Claude was preceded in death by his father; son, Claude Caruthers Jr.; two sisters, Clara Abbett and Carrie Peron: brothers, Clifton Caruthers, and infant brother; and one nephew.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Michelle DeRoche, Alicia Frazier of Oklahoma City, Felicia Darlene and Joe Brummett of Macomb, and Lora and T.C. Connor of Beaver; one son, Cody Caruthers of Boyce, La.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Charlie and wife, Jacky Caruthers, of Lafayette, La.; and his mother, Lelie Caruthers; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation to begin at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, and continue through time of service. Family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Tribbey Cemetery with Dewey Reeves officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
