Clarence Joseph Rome, Sr.
(November 24, 1924 - August 12, 2011)

He was the beloved husband of 63 years of Hazel Seneca Rome. A retired employee of Texaco with 30 years of service and a resident and native of Plaquemine, he passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City surrounded by his family. He was 86 and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine on Sunday, Aug. 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, Aug. 15, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Cleo Milano. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Seneca Rome. He was the loving father of daughter, Tana and husband James Edward Comeaux, of Addis; and two sons, Gregory and wife Ferol Lambert Rome and Clarence Jr. and wife Sandy Landry Rome, all of Plaquemine. He was the loving brother of Thelma Rome Abadie, of Baton Rouge and Theresa and husband Calvin Hebert, of Plaquemine. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold and wife Helen C. Rome, of Luling and Claude Joseph Rome, of Grand Isle; 10 grandchildren, Lambert, Ginnie, Jessica, Brooke, Clay, Brittany, Blair, Bryn, Korey and Alex; and five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Keegan, Carson, Ella and Victoria. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan R. Merrick; parents, Ludger Jean and Marie Rome Rome; two sisters, Earlene Rome Berthelot and Hazel Rome Troxclair; and four brothers, Lovincy AndrŽ Rome, Louis Joseph Rome, Ronald Joseph Rome and Lester ÒLAÓ Rome. Pallbearers will be Lambert, Clay, Cameron, Jimmy, Ryan and Korey. Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Jr. and Gregory Rome. He was a member of the American Legion. He was such a devoted husband to Hazel. He would ride his bicycle every day to see her at the nursing home for coffee and breakfast and spend his day with her. He loved his family just as much as Hazel. He also loved to play cards and go fishing.
