Jose Acevedo, 90, a former Liberal resident, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Zacatecas, Mexico, to Rafael and Quinna Vargas Acevedo.

Mr. Acevedo had worked in a nursery in California for many years, retiring in 1983 and moving to Liberal in 1995.

He married Maria L. Bueno in 1937 in Zacatecas. She died Oct. 4, 2000.

Survivors include five sons, Rafeal Acevedo of Liberal, Jose Acevedo of Midland, Texas, Samuel Acevedo of Anaheim, Calif., and Heriberto and Tomas Acevedo, both of Garden City; five daughters, Ofelia Villa and Kirina Gonzales, both of Baja, Calif., Maria Mata of Chihuahua, Mexico, Olivia Juardo of Mexico City, Mexico, and Yolanda Fierro of Garden City; three brothers, Rafael Acevedo of California, and Refugio and Tranqullin Acevedo, both of Baja; a sister, Romana Acevedo of Pamona, Calif.; 58 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Rosary was 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal. Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial was at Liberal Cemetery.
