James Russel Adams was born on March 17, 1923 in Rudyard, Montana. His parents were Charles M. and Axie (Earl) Adams, and he was the youngest of fourteen children. Jim received his formal education at Joplin, graduating from high school there in 1940. He was inducted into the U.S. Army World War II; he served overseas in England and France and was wounded in action. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Montana.

Jim married Varvarra Jean Sauer on October 9th, 1948 at "The Hitching Post" in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. They lived in nearby Kellogg, Idaho for several years where Jim worked for the Sunshine Mining Company. In 1953 they moved to the Inverness community where they raised their four daughters. Jim spent most of his working years in the farming business. After his retirement in 1987, they moved to their home in Lakeside. Because of failing health two years ago, Jim entered the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. He resided there until his death this past Tuesday evening, August 3rd, 1993. He was 70 years old.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Varvarra of Lakeside; four daughters & their husbands, including Cheryl & Nick Bubnash of Lakeside, Goldie & Bill LaBelle of Great Falls, Cindy & Rick Rose of Roseberg, Oregon, and Jamie & Fred Greco of Cut Bank; one brother & sister-in-law, Emery & Ruth Adams of Pinehurst, Idaho; six grandsons, two granddaughters, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. Friends serving as pallbearers were Charlie Adams, Allen Barbie, Dalton Dahlke, Duane Fraser, Chuck Lineweaver, & John May. Memorial bearers included John Fred, Tony Jochim, Martin Jochim, Hank Carlson, Lonnie Cady, Zane Adams, Kelly Adams, & Jim Moose.

Interment was in Joplin cemetery.
