A retired nurse's assistant and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 82 and a native of Clinton. Visiting at Star Hill Baptist Church, 1400 N. Foster Drive, on Wednesday, Sept. 24, was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Raymond Jetson, pastor. Interment in Macedonia Cemetery, Clinton. Survived by three daughters, Dorothy Adams Hewlett, Shelia Hawkins and Gaynell Jolla Brand; five sons, Larry Adams, Shedrick Griffin, Gregory Hawkins, Lionel Jolla and Fredrick Davis; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lea Mims and Helen Mims; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Charity Mims; five brothers, Sherman, Samuel, Ferdinand, Mose Jr. and James Russell; six sisters, Mammie M. Jefferson, Anne Mims, Naomi M. Wilson, Martha M. Kelly, Elizabeth M. Hawkins and Olevia M. Harrison; and son, Leslie Adams Jr. She was a graduate of East High School, Clinton, board member of the Cosey Family Program, advocate for the March of Dimes and 1986 Foster Parent of the Year.
