He returned to his eternal home November 21, 2011, after suffering from pulmonary fibrosis in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. John joined the U. S. Air Force in 1957 and served until 1962 in Okinawa and Japan. He converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in March 1961, while serving in Tokyo, Japan. From 1962 to 1964 he served as a missionary for the Church in the Southern States Mission. He attended college at Utah State University, Weber State College, and Brigham Young University. He worked as a firefighter in Atlanta, Georgia for 9½ years (which was the cause of his pulmonary fibrosis) and as a security officer for the LDS Church for 20 years. His funeral services and interment were held at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah, on November 26, 2011.
