Miles Sweeny, Long Time Aspenite Dies

Miles Edward Sweeny, Aspen resident since 1887, died in his home last Monday. Mr. Sweeny, who was eighty-five was born in East Brady, Pennsylvania. He came to Colorado when he was twenty-one, and after working a few years in Glenwood, he settled in Aspen where he spent the rest of his years. He had an enviable record of thirty-seven years steady employment with the Roaring Forks Light and Power Company, and owned the Sweeny Bargain Store here in Aspen for nearly thirty years.

Mr. Sweeny is survived by a brother, John, of East Brady Pennsylvania; a daughter, Mrs. Walter Acheson, a well known Aspen resident; two sons, Lawrence and Edward, both of Grand Junction; four grandchildren, Larry Sweeny of Silt, Delia Ann Sweeny, of Grand Junction, Miles and Peggy Acheson, of Denver, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. L. J. Sweeny, of Silt.

The funeral was held at ten in the morning, Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial was at Red Butte. Members of the family present were Mrs. L. J. Sweeny and son, Tom, of Silt; Miss Margaret Sweeny of Cheyenne; Al Sweeny, of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Miles Aceson, of Denver; Ed Sweeny, of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sweeny, and son, Larry of Silt.

SON'S MARRIAGE:

The marriage of Larry Sweeny and Miss Mary Holland was solemnized Sunday evening at St. Mary's Church, Father Pitaval officiating. After the ceremony the wedding party repaired to the residence of Miles Sweeny on Francis Street where a bountiful supper was served. Mr. and Mrs. Sweeny were the recipients of many congratulations and evidences of esteem in the form of handsome presents.
