John Addington, son of Charles and Minnie (Ziebell) Addington, was born June 24, 1898, at Abilene, KS. His death occurred at his home in Russell, KS on Oct. 19, 1986 at the age of 88 yrs, 3 mon. & 25 days.

John Lived his early life in southern Russell Co., attended the rural school near the family home, and on Oct. 9, 1921 was united in marriage to Myra Catherine Corke at Studley, KS.

In 1924 he and Myra moved to Fresno, CA where John was employed at the Fresno State College in the Custodial Dept. John worked at the college until his retirement and in June of 1968 he and Myra returned to Russell to make their home.

John loved to garden, like flowers and fishing, and felt quite at home in the kitchen where he could demonstrate his cooking ability. After the death of his wife Myra on Oct. 18, 1968, he continued to live at home and until his death failed, he would still enjoy his outdoor activities. In 1971 his sister-in-law Mary Addington came to Russell to make her home with John and help to take care of him.

He was a member of the Russell American Legion Post and was still a member of the First Baptist Church at Fresno, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myra; three brothers: Frank, Joe, and Harold; and two sisters: Nora Addington and Alice Chenoweth. Survivors are a sister, Maggie Parker of Russell; his sister-in-law, Mary Addington, of the home; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
