OBITUARY: DEATH OF J. W. RITTER SHOCKS THE COMMUNITY-Wathena community is shocked by the death early this (Thursday) morning of J. William Ritter, 51, at Wadsworth veterans hospital. Bill was a husky man who had been working daily at his blacksmith shop until about three weeks ago when he entered a St. Joseph hospital. He later was moved to Wadsworth. His death was due to a rapidly-spreading malignancy of the brain.
Bill was born near Wathena and spent all his life in the community. He was a member of St. Joseph's church, a veteran of World war II and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are the wife, Evalena, and three children of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Wm. Ritter; four brothers, Isadore, Aloysius, Sigmund and Emmett of Wathena, and two sisters, Olga of the home and Mrs. Gilda Showalter of Wathena.Funeral arrangements had not been made at press-time.(Src: The Wathena Times, May 12, 1955.)
