Darlene Mae Hoxeng, age 79, of Yankton, passed away Sunday evening, May 13, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. Dave Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Volin, SD, at approximately 1:30 PM. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a video tribute and memory sharing at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers are Matt Hoxeng, Brian Hoxeng, Tyler Hoxeng, Tara Hoxeng, Amber Sorenson and Erika Hoxeng.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jack & Diane Gunderson, Doris Peterson, Lucille Mjoen, Jerome & Caroline Zavadil, George & Jean Gunderson and Twila Stribal.

Darlene Mae Hoxeng was born February 25, 1933 in Viborg, SD to Hans & Anna (Andersen) Sorensen. She attended Volin Public High School. She married Warren Dale Hoxeng and they farmed near Volin until Warren's death. Darlene moved to Yankton . She loved her flower beds and was very proud of her yard. She received the Yard-of-the-Month Award. She loved to knit, crochet, play solitaire and watch the birds. She also liked to have a fun time with all of her friends.

She is survived by her sons, Dale (Jill) Hoxeng, Terry Hoxeng and Dave (Dana) Hoxeng, all of Volin, SD; daughter, Karen Hoxeng of Yankton, SD; sisters, Lucille Mjoen of Yankton, SD, Carolyn (Jerome) Zavadil of Crofton, NE; In-laws, Darlene Pederson of Yankton, SD, Janet (Don) DeBolt of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Dale; parents, Hans & Anna Sorensen; brother, Everett (Helen) Sorenson; sisters, Estella (Arnold) Anderson, Elaine (Jim) Meyers, Muriel (Oliver) Aaen, Gladys (Lowell) Brown; daughter-in-law, Julie Hoxeng; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Mjoen.
