He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Bismarck, N.D., the son of Fred J. and Anna (Kuch) Albers. He grew up on the family farm/ranch at Hannover, N.D. He received his schooling at Hannover school and Center High School. In 1940 Claude joined the U.S. Navy, serving all through the Pacific War on destroyers from Pearl Harbor to Okinawa. He received 13 battle stars, leaving with the rank of Chief Machinist Mate. On July 19, 1945, Claude was united in marriage to Joyce Bergloff in Seattle, Wash. They returned to the family farm/ranch and in 1948 purchased a mechanic shop and Massey Ferguson dealership, which he operated until 1963. He later moved to Billings, and went to work for Melroe Manufacturing Co. as a district rep for Montana and Wyoming, bringing in the first skid steers to the area.
During his travels he discovered a mineral deposit that seemed promising and after a couple of years and research, he began New Life Co., which he operated along with his son until the time of his death.
He is survived by his son Mardi of Grass Range; daughter, Claudette (Jerry) Yantzer of Killdeer, N.D.; a grandson, Brant (Beth) Yantzer and sons, Eric and Quin; granddaughter, Nicole (Matt) Fredrickson and son, Benjamin.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Gertrude Thompson and Bobbie Cass.
Funeral services for Claude J. Albers will be Monday, June 11, 11 a.m. in Celebration Community Fellowship Church. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Grass Range Cemetery.
