SIDNEY — Mass of the Christian Burial for Kathleen "Kay" Adams, 92, of Sidney, is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at St. Matthews's Catholic Church, with Father Jim O'Neil and Father Ned Shinnick as presiders. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Montana Right to Life, PO Box 6787, Helena, MT 59604. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.

Kathleen "Kay" was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Bainville, to Adrian and Annie (McHugh) Blanc. Both parents were immigrants to the U.S. Her mother immigrated through Ellis Island from Louth County, Ireland, to live with family in Plentywood. Her father immigrated to Canada from France and settled in Montana to homestead near Bainville. Kay was the second of three children. She was raised on the family farm outside Four Buttes. She attended high school in Peerless. After high school, she worked at a grocery store in Fort Peck while the dam was being built. She moved from there to Sidney to clean houses. She later landed a job with the telephone office in Sidney as an operator. It was in Sidney she met her future husband, Fay Emmett Adams. They were married in January of 1942 in Sidney. After her husband joined the Army in 1944, she followed him during his training, ending up in the LA area during WWII. She worked as a telephone operator at several places, including the main telephone office in LA. After WWII, Kay and Emmett returned to Sidney to raise a family. She continued to work as an operator as well as raising her two sons.

When her husband died in 1966, she took a job as a sales clerk at the Yellowstone Mercantile, later becoming a clerk at the Sidney Abstract Office in 1967. She worked there until her retirement in 1987. She commented many times how interesting she found the abstract work. One particular memory was the day that the 1970s oil boom was over in Sidney. She said in the morning it was very busy as usual and by afternoon, nothing.

Right to Life was her main focus of interest, especially after she had retired. She held many positions in the Sidney Right to Life, as well as the Montana Right to Life organization. For years, she organized and manned the Right to Life booth at the Richland County Fair. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Sidney and held positions within that organization through the years.

Kay was proud of the fact that, until two years ago, she was fully independent, mowing her own lawn, shoveling snow in the winter, bike riding around town, taking exercise classes, taking care of her garden and flowers and driving.

Kay was a lifetime member of the St. Matthews Catholic community in Sidney.

Kay Adams passed away on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at the age of 92. She died of pneumonia after suffering a stroke. Kay was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Kay is survived by her son Bernard (Paulette) of Helena; grandchildren, Belinda and Brad of Helena; sisters-in-law Leonie Blanc of Scobey and Charlotte Withrow of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; nieces and nephews Jim (Kathy) Wilcoxon of Scobey, Diane (Glenn) Bekker of Scobey, Eileen (Bob) Sain of Scobey, Jana Delong of Kalispell, Tom (Kathy) Adams of Oregon, Kay (Jim) Hamilton of Pleasant Hill.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents Adrian in 1954 and Annie Blanc in 1951; husband Fay Emmett "Mutt" in 1966; brother, George Blanc in 1974; sister, Alice Wilcoxon in 1989; daughter Fay Ann — stillborn in 1947; son Bradley in 1971.
