Ederlina Abella Abad Obituary Posted: Sunday, April 15, 2007
Juneau resident Ederlina Abella Abad died April 6, 2007, in Juneau. She was 54.
She was born April 6, 1953, in Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines, to Isidro and Conchita Abella.
Raised in the Philippines, she moved to Juneau in 1985 with her 2-year-old daughter to join her husband, who had been serving in the U.S. Marines, and his family. Her parents joined the family in 1988 and helped raised her two other children.
She met her husband, Jose Abad Jr., while attending the University of the East in Manila, Philippines, from which she graduated with a bachelor's of science in business administration in 1979.
In 2005, the family celebrated Terry and Jose's 25th wedding anniversary in the Philippines with their extended family and friends.
"She was gracious, artistic and a good friend to many. She was a loving and devoted wife and daughter," her daughter said. "She was a wise woman who was the source of strength to her children, husband and family. She loved her family.
She touched many lives, and brought joy to those who knew her. She was an inspiration during her long struggle with illness, showing courage, grace and faith. She was viewed as the strength of her family and will be missed by all those who love her."
She is survived by her husband, Jose S. Abad Jr.; mother, Conchita Abella; daughters, Clarabelle Abad and her husband, Dvin Savikko, and Joselle Abad; son, Jason Abad; sisters, Virginia Baldeo and Josefine Abella, and their families of the Philippines; brother, Rafael Abella, and his families of the Philippines; and many nieces and nephews, including Veronica Mathaler and her daughter, Mira, and Mary Manalansan, all of Sitka.
Friends and family attended a Mass service Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. A reception followed in St. Paul's Parrish.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Jose S. Abad Jr., Jason Abad, Davin Savikko, Brenton Savikko, Herman Savikko and Kelly Marthaler.
