Mr. Abbotts, 84, of Charlotte, died October 1, 2005 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC. He was born April 2, 1921 in Trenton, NJ to the late William Abbotts, Jr. and Ethel Funk Abbotts.

He was a class of '44 graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he was a member of the 1942 Southern Conference Champion Football Team and Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Abbotts was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II as an active participant of the D-Day Invasion; Liberation of France; Occupation of Berlin; earned a battlefield commission for extraordinary leadership in the European Theater of Operations; and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Mr. Abbotts was a loyal, dedicated 37-year employee of the General Electric Corporation serving in management positions for the household and audio products divisions.

Mr. Abbotts was preceded in death by his spouse of 46 years, Gloria M. Abbotts, and a sister, Ethel A. Albert. He is survived by his 2 brothers; 3 sons and their spouses; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews.

Harry and Bryant Company served the family of Mr. Abbotts.
