Esten Aas was born in Osterdalen, Norway, on August 31, 1839. he came to America in 1864, settling in Fillmore County, Minnesota, where on May 21, 1870 he was married to Bertha Pederson Storhoff. In 1881 he came to Barnes County, North Dakota and later moved on to the village of Litchville where he continued to live until three years ago at the time of his wife's death. Since then, with the , Mrs. J. M. Erpestad at Windom, Minn. At the time of his death and the two months previous, he was a resident at the Old Peoples' Home at Arthur, this state.

Mr. Aas suffered a stroke of apoplexy on August 21st, from which he died on Tuesday, August 24th; at the time he was 86 years, 11 months and 23 days of age. He leaves to mourn his loss his children, Mrs. Mary Johnson of Valley City, Miss Emma Aas of Grafton, Emil Aas of this village, Mrs. J. M. Erpestad of Windom, Minn., and Mrs. Sam Amundson of Canby, Ore. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Chris Pederson of Fargo and fourteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock at the First Lutheran Church in this village. Rev. John S. Sunde, pastor of the church officiated, using the Norwegian language. A touching and appropirate vocal solo was rendered by Mrs. T. J. Kinneberg. Interment was made in the Griswold cemetery at the side of his wife who completed life's journey some years ago.

The pallbearers were: S. O. Kulseth, J. E. Lekvold, A. Rorvig, Ole Vaarum, Ole Hellesvig and O. O. Bjerke, all old time friends and neighbors of the deceased.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Marie Johnson of Valley City, Mrs. Chris Pederson of Fargo and Miss Mabel Gunderson of Crystal Springs.
