Ruby Abbott, 88, of Erie, died at 5:12 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012, in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. She had been in failing health.
She was born February 14, 1924, in Burrton, Kansas to Abe W. and Sara (Heidbrecht) Riffel. In 1939, her family moved to Erie. As a young girl she attended Don Dodds Country School and later Erie High School.
On May 11, 1941, she and C. Vern Moore were married at the First Christian Church in Erie. Through the years, the couple farmed until moving to Erie in 1975. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1977.
On December 24, 1982, she and Earnest N. "Bill" Abbott were married at the Erie Baptist Church.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Erie where she served as deaconess for numerous years. She also was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading, camping and baking cookies. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.
Survivors include: Husband – Bill Abbott of the home One Son – Charles Moore Erie, KS Two Daughters – Beverly Simmons and her husband, Larry Erie, KS Nancy Holding and her husband, Doug St. Paul, KS Seven Grandchildren Nineteen Great-Grandchildren Two Great-Great-Grandchildren
In addition to her first husband Ruby was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Riffel, in 1941.
