Obituary Bismarck Tribune (September 16, 2010)
NEW SALEM - Marvin A. Bauer, 85, New Salem, died Sept. 14, 2010, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, New Salem, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Marvin Andrew Bauer was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Bismarck, the son of William and Lea (Bauer) Bauer. Raised and educated in the Bluegrass area, he was baptized and confirmed at the Otter Creek Church. Marvin married Hilda Mosbrucker there on Dec. 1, 1946. They farmed and raised their family together on Marvin's family farm. They moved into New Salem in 1983. Hilda died on July 21 of that same year. Marvin was united in marriage to Bernice Golde on March 18, 1988, at the Zion Church in New Salem.

Marvin's heart was always with the land he loved so dearly. Even after retiring from active farming, he helped his son, Mike, with the operation as long as he was able. He enjoyed reading and following the Minnesota Twins, but his favorite pastime was pinochle. In his later years, time spent with his "pinochle buddies" each morning was an important and fulfilling part of Marvin's life.

Marvin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem for most of his life, following the closure of Otter Creek, and played a very active part in its ministry. He served as a trustee, an elder and was a member of the LLL and Thrivent.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Bernice, New Salem; his son, Mike (Bev) Bauer, New Salem; his daughter, Peggy King, Joplin, Mo.; his stepchildren, Thomas (Jean) Bornemann, Beulah, Brenda (James) Olzweski, Mandan, Sue (Carl) Jacobson, Mandan, Judy (Casey) Stepak, Bellingham, Wash., and Paul (Greta) Bornemann, Lacey, Wash.; two grandchildren, Brittni Bauer and her friend, Joel Williams, Mandan, and Michael (Nikki) Bauer, Baxter Springs, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Harley Bauer; 14 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Ruth (Howard) Gray, Lebanon, Ore., Anita Flemmer, Beulah, and Janice (Norman) Eggers, Texas; his brothers, Lloyd (Wilma) Bauer, Salem, Ore., and Arlois (Eunice) Bauer, Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda; his sisters, Bernice Adolf, Verona Breimeier and Doris Keller; and his brother, Edgar Bauer.
