Frank, a pioneer of the Eureka mining district, died at the residence of Eugene McCarthy after being suddenly taken ill with pneumonia. A native of Silesia Province in Prussia, he came to America in about 1865, and had been in the San Juan since 1875. His funeral at the Knights of Labor Hall was attended by a large concourse of friends, and burial was at Hillside. Frank's partner and very best friend, Maurice Condon, was so affected by Frank's death that he took to heavy drinking; about five weeks after Frank's death, Maurice, who had been a splendid physical specimen, died on a billiard table in the Star of the West Saloon.
