Charter Oak - Barbara Marie Abbott, daughter of Wesley and Katherine (Kadlec) Fremel was born July 7, 1883 in Milford Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She passed away May 19, 1969 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 12 days.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Abbott on September 12, 1905 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. Five sons and five daughters were born to this union. Their early life was spent on the farm, then moving to the town of Vail, Iowa in 1930. They moved to Charter Oak, Iowa in 1932, where she resided until a year and a half ago when she entered the Eventide Rest Home at Denision, Iowa.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard of Charter Oak, and Melvin of Council Bluffs. Three daughters, Dorothy, Mrs. Harold Hansen of Canoga Park, California, Donna Creese of Charter Oak, Iowa and Barbara Ann, Mrs. Lloyd Hulburd of Topeka, Kansas. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Freml of Denison and a half sister Margaret of Cedar Falls, Iowa besides 27 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas and three sons and two daughters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa with interment in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Vail, Iowa.
Pallbearers were all grandsons, Robert Abbott, Gene Abbott, Michael Creese of Charter Oak, Thomas M. Abbott of Carroll, Iowa, Thomas F. Abbott of Council Bluffs and Richard Abbott, US Navy, Norfolk, Virginia. Rosary was said Tuesday at
8 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa.
