Donald W. Hanson, age 88, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Watertown Christian Church in Watertown. Rev. Reino Maunu will officiate. Music will be provided by Hannah Barney as organist with Donald's grandchildren singing.



Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Danny Hanson, Leslie Hanson, Randy Hanson, Thomas Hanson, Jared Sikkila and Raymond Aho.



Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Friday.



Donald was born on February 19, 1925, in Hamlin County, SD, to Thomas and Ruth Ann (West) Hanson. He attended schools in Hamlin County and Watertown. Donald worked for Peter Fox Farms and Swift & Company.



On November 25, 1948, Donald married Jennie M. Tifft in Watertown, SD. The couple lived in Watertown for a few years before moving to rural Henry, SD, where they farmed from 1953 to 1972. In 1973, they moved to Washington and Donald worked as a home builder and remodeler. They moved back to the Castlewood area in 1993 to retire and later moved to Watertown.



He was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church, serving as a lay minister. Donald enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and music. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.



Donald is survived by his wife, Jennie, of Watertown, SD; his five children: Janet (Raymond) Aho of Frazee, MN, Danny (Carol) Hanson of Battle Ground, WA, Leslie (Marsha) Hanson of Ponsford, MN, Randy (Mary) Hanson of Campobello, SC, and Thomas (Wendy) Hanson of Prineville, OR; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (Virginia) Hanson, of Canton, SD; and one sister, Dora Mitchell, of Watertown, SD.



He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Donald; one great-granddaughter, Angel; his parents; one brother, Dale; and one sister, Zola Haight.
