Ruth was born in Polk County Wisconsin to William and Grace(Prouty)West. She moved to the Hamlin County area,with her family when she was a child.She attended a country school and Brookings College. She later taught school in Opdahl township. She was united in marriage with Thomas C. Hanson on Dec.11,1920 at Bryant, SD. Following their marriage, they farmed in Opdahl township. About 1935 they moved to Watertown with their five children,Dale, Donald, Zola Ann, Dora Jean and Lloyd, and lived there the rest of their lifes, with the exception of about two years spent near Seattle WA. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in the Apostolic Lutheran faith and was a member of that church in Watertown. She is buried in the church cemetery, near Lake Norden, SD. Survivers are her 5 children, 4 sisters,17 grandchildren and 31 gr-grandchildren.
