Hosea Ballou Harris was the son of Robert Glydewell Harris (an Universalist Minister) and Harriet Byington.

He was married and widowed 4 times.

With his first wife Zora Belle Gilbert he had 2 children, Robert Gilbert Harris (1883-1907)and Leona Belle Harris Laird (1885-1925).

With his second wife Sarah Annis Campbell he had 6 children, John David Harris (1889-1959), Molly Mae Harris Muellecker(1891-1931), Emma Jean Harris (1893-1895), William Allen Harris (1896-1980), Hosea Bryan Harris (1898-1978), and Charles Richard Harris (1900-1950).

With his third wife Eliza F. Peterson (widow of Sidney Bravard) he had 1 child, Alton Parker Harris (1904-1971). Alton also had 3 half brothers from his mother's first marriage to Sidney Bravard; Charles Everett, Nelson and James B Bravart. Alton and his half brother James married sisters, Maybelle and Lola Hermanson in Greene County, Iowa.

He had no children with his fourth wife Sarah Ellen Raish Yaeger.

Hosea B. Harris, long a prominent resident of Blissville, died at the home of his son Richard Harris, near Tameroa, yesterday morning, after an illness of a few days. He was about 70 years old. Mr. Harris is a widower, and is survived by a number of children. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 o'clock a.m. at the Universalist church in Waltonville and burial will follow at Knob Prairie cemetery (note: wrong cemetery listed). The services will be conducted by Rev. I. N. Hicks.
