Between 1840 and 1848 the Harris' moved from Kentucky to Ste. Genevieve County, Mo. Here Robert Glydewell married his first wife Harriet Byington on 30 Apr 1848.
From his marriage with Harriet Byington, Robert had seven children; Esther A. Harris Clodfelter (1849 - 1905), Amanda Harris Fagan (1851 - 1922), Emily Frances Harris Abernathy (1853 - 1923), Mary Jane Harris Wells Mannen (1855 - 1923), Hosea Ballou Harris (1857 - 1929) and Samuel R. Harris (1860 - 1868). Harriet died 16 Oct 1866.
Robert then married Rebecca Campbell Gilbert (widow of James Gale Gilbert) 19 Jan 1871. From this marriage he had 2 children; Hattie Bell Harris Hicks (1872 - 1926) and Robert Glydewell Harris, Jr. (1875 - 1900).
RGH was a circuit preacher for the Universalist Church in Ste Genevieve County, Mo. In 1870, he became the Minister of the Universalist Church in Williamsburg, Ill. (close to present day Waltonville). RGH was the last minister of this church as the town disappeared when the railroad came through Waltonville.
RGH died in 1874 in Wayne County, Ill. according to legal papers filed for probate of his Will.
