The third wife of TJ listed wrong dates on his tombstone. Death certificate or census list place of birth as Kentucky and parents' birth place as NC. Father listed as John Sketo on Jeff's death certificate. John Sketo thought to be the son of Wm Sketo and Jane Odom of Muhl. Co., KY. Perhaps resident near Island, KY. John seems to have been married twice in Muhl. Co., KY.
After his parents died, Jeff lived with an older sister who was killed in a house fire.

A John Skeetoe marreid Wineford Skeetoe 8 Dec. 1814. Wineford born 1794-1804 in NC.
A John Sketoe married Polly Sketoe on 27 Dec. 1927. Polly had a son and may have been a widow.

1822 tax John Sketoe 2 children age 4-14 and in 1829 4 children over 4 and under 15.

1830 census Muhl. Co., KY: John Sketoe has a daughter under 5, a male and 2 female 5-10, a male 15-20

It may be Jeff's brother, John Sketoe, that married Elizabeth Bates on 2 Oct. 1843 in Perry Co., IN.
Jeff was married there on 27 Feb. 1844 to Polly Brock.

Jefferson was married three times and eighteen children. Each wife had six children. Thomas Skittoe married first to Polly Ann Brock on 27 Feb. 1844 in Perry Co., IN. She died while TJ was away in the Civil War 1863/4. Place of burial possibly Beard Cem. Children: William 1847, James 1848, Margaret Jane 1852, John 1856, Delilah 1859 and George 1861.

Married second to Louisianna "Lulu" Hensley in 1865. Children Abraham Wesley, Amanda, Emma, Ida, Charles and Samuel. She left her family. She indicated two husbands in a pension application after TJ. She did not marry the first. The way the pension application read, I thought they did not allow her application but the third wife, per a daughter, received not a penny of pension money and the second wife got it all. Pauline applied twice for the pension and was disallowd first in 1908.

Married third to Pauline "Pliney" Huffer Armes on 18 Aug. 1882 at Waco, Daviess Co., IN. Third marriage for each. She married first to John T. Green and was a widow of Edward Armes. Application to marry was allowed due to disappearance of last wife years earlier . Children: Andrew Sketo, Melinda, Susan, Benjamin and Laura and stillborn son

Co. E 49th Reg. Indiana Volunteers. Residence Adyeville Mustered in 21 Nov. 1861. Deserted Nov 25, 1862.
In Nov 1862 this company was attached to 3rd Brigade, Cumberland Div. District of W Virginia, Dept. of the Ohio. Expedition to Charleston W. VA Oct 21-Nov. 10. Moved to Memphis Nov 10 until Dec. 20. 1862. 2nd Brigade, 9th Div., Right Wing 13th Army Corps, Dept of TN to Dec. 1862

Apprehended - No date listed. Mustered out 29 Nov. 1864. Jeff's wife and a son died while he was at war but the dates of their deaths are unknown. His oldest son, William born 1844, also served in the Civil War - Private Co. A 144th Indian Infantry 6 months.

Thomas Jefferson Sketo Original Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension dated 23 Aug 1888.

Attached to this declaration was information provided by a grandson, Ira B. Sketo, son of Wm, that Jefferson was engaged in the following battles and campaigns: Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Atlanta campaign, Resaca, Peachtree Ck, the Siege of Corinth, MS and other engaements. The 49th does not appear to have been in these battles, was he transferred or what is the source. Was this attachment with the pension or with family records.
