Jessie L. Adams died peacefully at home in the arms of his daughter and loving caregiver, Janet Bridgen on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Jessie was born in Toms Creek Virginia on June 26, 1931 to Samuel and Annie Adams. He spent his childhood working and playing in the mountains and valleys of Appalachia. Jessie moved to Roanoke in 1970 and then later Botetourt County Virginia after retiring from 20 years in the Air Force where he served in the Korean War and during the height of the Vietnam War. He later retired from Roanoke Electric Steel. He spent his remaining years playing in the dirt and growing his beloved 'maters and beans for his family and friends. In later years the birds and squirrels and an occasional groundhog as well as his faithful canine companions brought him a great deal of pleasure and joy.
The family greatly thanks Amedisys Hospice, the VA Home Care Team from the Salem VA Hospital and his in-home caregivers for their care and support, which allowed him to live out his life at home where he wanted to be; Many thanks to the Botetourt Rescue Squad Teams for their assistance as well.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with funeral immediately following. Burial will be at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Daddy would have liked for you to consider memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) and/or League of Animal Protection Shelter (PO Box 561 Fincastle VA 24090).
