Napoleon Man Dies on Bismarck Visit

Joseph S Schumacher, 83, of Napoleon, died Monday while visiting daughter, Mrs. Magdaline Mattson.
The Rev. Veit will celebrant at a solemn requiem high mass on Friday at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Napoleon, burial in church cemetery.
Born 11 Nov 1875 at Odessa S. Russia to Eva Richter and Sebastian Schumacher, coming to the US in 1886 with his parents coming directly to McIntosh Co. He married Katherine Wolf on 28 Nov 1900 in McIntosh. The couple moved to a farm 8 miles SW of Napoleon and farmed until 1942 when they retired and moved to Napoleon.
He leaves his wife; 5 sons, Frank of Rugby, ND, Andrew of Doyon, ND, Peter of Devils Lake, ND, Sebastian J and Joe both of Napoleon; 5 daughters, Mrs. Magdaline Mattson of Bismarck, ND, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Miller, Mrs. Ernest (Agatha) Szydlowski and Mrs. John (Clara) Hilla, all of Detroit, MI and Miss Eva Schumacher of Bismarck; 40 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving 7 sisters, Mrs. Henry Jangula of Linton, ND., Mrs. Joseph Aberele of Napoleon, ND, Mrs. Fred Mathern of Strasburg, ND, Mrs. John Reis of Strasburg, ND, Mrs. Sebastian Moser of Fargo, ND, and Mrs. Leon Erwin of San Fernando, CA; 5 brothers, Peter S of Napoleon, ND, Wendlin of Aberdeen, SD, John of Yakima, WA, Adam of Livingston, MT and Mike of Linton, ND.
One daughter, Katherine Tuchscherer of Rugby preceded him in death.
