Editor of the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, served in the Civil War as part of the Fayetteville Light Infantry and the Ashland Artillery of Henrico County, served as Secretary of the Commonwealth, and represented Louisa County in the Virginia House of Delegates, 1887-8.
