Marvin Achterhof, the son of Jake and Deana (Rademaker) Achterhof, was born at Baldwin, Wise, on January 27, 1910. He lived his youth and attended school in Baldwin and continued his education at Lee Barber School in SL Paul, Minn. He barbered in St. Paul for five years before moving to Sanborn in 1936.

He was united in marriage to Martha Cuhel on November 2, 1936 at St Paul, Minn, and to this union one daughter was born.

During World War II Marv served his country In the United States Navy from April 11, 1944 to December 17, 1945. He returned to Sanborn and continued to operate his barber shop until he sold it to Jeiry Fritz on April 14, 1967.

Martha died on April 10. 1994. Marv continued to make his home In Sanborn, residing at Prairie View Manor, and most recently. Prairie View Home where he died on February 20.1997, at the age of 87 years, 23 days.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Lloyd Vander Burgh of Sllverthorne, Colo.: two grand­children: Lori Childers of Iowa City, la. and Steve Vander Burgh of Golden, Colo.; two great-grandchildren: John and Lynn Childers, and two sisters: Luclle DeYoung of Hillsboro. Mo. and Helen Voskil of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother, Calvin.

He was a member of the First Re­formed Church of Sanborn. Funeral services were held February 24 at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn with Rev. Thomas Hoogen-docin officiating. Casketbearers were Don Kroese, Ted Marra, Jim Ver Mulm, Steve Vander Burgh, Lee Chllders and Brian Visser. Congregational hymns were "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Great Is Thy Faith­fulness." Ruth Sterk was organist Flag presentation was by Earl T. Conaway Post No. 318, American Le­gion, Sanborn, with burial in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn. The Sanborn Fu­neral Home was In charge of arrange­ments.
