MARIE MADELINE MINTON ABBOTT, 95 years of age of Keen Mountain, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Clinch Valley Medical Center. Born June 12, 1921, in Blue Diamond, KY, she was the daughter of the late Hobert Garrett and Ruth (Nance) Minton. She was a longtime resident of Keen Mountain and was a member of Oakwood Full Gospel Church. Marie worked at Oakwood Tastee Freeze for Don and Ann Ratliff and was a very special volunteer for Gift of Love Lighthouse Ministry and dinners.

She was a wonderful mother to her three children, always putting their care and needs before herself. She worked hard, not only to provide for their basic needs, but also to ensure that they had a quality life. She also cared for her father for many years, who was confined to a wheel chair, making sure his home was clean and supplied three meals a day. Also, she took in ironing clothes in her home, and cleaned houses in the Keen Mountain area. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ceba Chapman Abbott; 1-Daughter: Janie Elizabeth Abbott; 1-Grandson: William Hale; 2-Brothers: Ray Minton and Hobert "Junior" Minton.

She also had two special friends that are deceased, Grace Mullins and Lucy Belcher.

Those left to cherish her memory include 1-Son: Richard Ray (Cathy) Abbott, Kingston, TN; 1-Daughter: Lois (Roger) Null, Keen Mountain, VA; 5-Grandchildren: Richard Hobern Abbott, Staunton, VA, Missy Lee Null, Keen Mountain, VA, Beth Stilwell, Greensboro, NC, Chase (Kelsey) Abbott, Maryville, TN, Rhoda Shortridge, Oakwood, VA; 4-Great-Grandchildren: Nathaniel and Caleb Hale, Abingdon, VA, Merrick Stilwell, Greensboro, NC, Lucas Shortridge, Grundy, VA; Very Special Niece: Jan Ruth Minton Nichols and husband, Jack Junior Nichols, Bristol, VA; 1-Special Friend: Ruth Keen.

Funeral Services for MARIE MADELINE MINTON ABBOTT will be conducted Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Roger Lee Null, Rev. Clyde Harman and Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial to follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Butch Stiltner, Brandon Nichols, Brock Nichols, Jack "Junior" Nichols, Hobert "Pete" Minton, Rayburn Minton II, Jackie Mullins and A.L. Blankenship.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Gift of Love Lighthouse Ministry Volunteers, Paul Lowe, Harold Musick, Charlie Deel, Kennith Vestal, Johnny Scott, Chris Hess, Joe St. Clair, Willie and Juanita Price, Robert "Bob" and Christine Moore, and Dinkey Coleman.
