Pearl Agnes Aasen 91-year-old resident of Brainerd, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2017 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 5, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brainerd, with Pastor Mark Skinner officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, April 4, at Halvorson- Johnson Funeral & Cremation Care and also, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place next to her husband at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
Pearl was born to Ferdinand and Blanche Nelson on October 1, 1925. She graduated from Bemidji High School and Northern Business College. She worked as a secretary for attorney Arnold C. Forbes and as a bookkeeper for Gill Brother's Clothing Store. Pearl married Noel S. Aasen September 10, 1950 in Bemidji. While living in Bemidji she was a member of Bemidji United Workers 4-H Club, Trinity Lutheran Church, Get-Acquainted Fellowship, Ladies Aid, Northern School PTA, and Pine Tree Squares. In 1970 Pearl, Noel, and their 5 children moved to Brainerd. There she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Joanna Circle, Young at Hearts, Bible Study, and Ray's Promenaders Square Dancers. Her hobbies included collecting elephants, postage stamps and decorative plates, quilting, square dancing, making Christmas & birthday cards, Scrabble, card playing, and fishing when the sunfish and crappies were biting. Pearl and Noel took many trips with Paulsen Travel. Pearl was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
Pearl is survived by daughters, Nancy Toussaint of Paramount, CA, Diane Steinkopf of Brainerd, Charlene (Tom) Irwin of Van Nuys, CA, Karen (Mark) Epple of Edina; daughter-in-law, Doris Aasen of Brainerd; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 nieces; and 1 nephew.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Noel; son, Barry; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.
