Esther M. Abbott, 84, of Greensburg, passed away on May 11, 2017. She was born on July 5, 1932 in a little farm house, in Milhousen, 1 of 13 children born to John and Helen Blankman Vanderpohl. Esther married William Abbott on June 27, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2002. Together they raised three children: John, Nancy, and Sharon. Esther had a cleaning service with her sisters. When she was not working she spent her time with her family. She loved playing card games, Yahtzee, euchre, bingo, fishing and bowling.
Survivors include: Son- John Abbott (Alfa McDaniel); Daughters- Nancy (Mark) Redelman and Sharon Woolston; Grandchildren- Samantha Flora, Lacey (William) Martin, Tammy Shreve, and Lisa Redelman; 9 Great Grandchildren; Brothers- Gilbert Vanderpohl, Vernon Vanderpohl; Sisters- Dottie (Charles) Land, Marilyn Preston, and Betty Schroeder. She was preceded in death by: Parents, Husband; Grandson- Brad Miller; Brothers- John Vanderpohl, Irvin Vanderpohl, Clifford Vanderpohl, Donald Vanderpohl; Sisters- Evelyn Theising, Florine Owens, and Joan Vanderpohl.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Perry Cook will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Hebron Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters or to the Decatur County Animal Shelter.
