John William “Tree” Adams Jr., 59, of Denton, MD passed away on Sunday, October 23, at his home. He was born on November 12, 1952 at Columbia Hospital in Washington D.C. John was the son of Rosemary Healy Adams and the late John “Tree” Adams. John graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, MD and obtained a full athletic scholarship to play football at West Virginia University under the coaching staff of Bobby Bowden. He graduated from WVU, and following in his father’s footsteps, who played for Notre Dame and the Washington Redskins, John Jr. was drafted into the NFL and went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals and NY Jets. After his football career, he became a caretaker at the Stevensville farm he grew up on, Batts Neck Plantation, and worked in the real estate business with his childhood friend, Billy Maloney of The Maloney Companies. He is survived by two sons, John William Adams, III and spouse Megan, and Joey Michael Adams. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Gemma and Levi Adams. John also leaves behind his mother, Rosemary Adams and nine brothers and sisters: Kathy Miller, Agnes Adams, Theresa Plummer, Patricia Sullivan, Margaret Lewis, Rosemary Adams, James Adams, Joan Marks, and Tommy Adams, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Friends may be received at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Rd., Chester, MD, on Friday, October 28th from 6:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29th, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD.
