Clifford “Ray” Abbott, 91, passed peacefully from his earthly home and entered Heaven’s Gates Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY.

Ray was born April 20, 1926, in Pulaski County, Kentucky to James Harrison and Rebecca Alexander Abbott. Ray and his twin William “Ralph” were the youngest of 10 children. He attended Texas School in Pulaski County. He married Glytus Eaton Christmas Eve 1946.

Clifford Ray Abbott is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Glytus Eaton Abbott: children Dennis Ray Abbott (Alicia) and Diane Abbott Smiley (Steve); grandchildren Lucas Bumgardner, Amanda Abbott, Ethan Bumgardner (Casey), Eric Smiley, and Sara Smiley; great grandchildren Landon and Rayland Bumgardner.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, James Harrison and Rebecca Abbott; brothers and sisters: Elmer, Lucille, Earl, Letha, Lorene, Wilson, Vernon, Charles, and Ralph, and a host of beloved Sisters-in law, Brothers-in-law, Nieces, Nephews, and dear Friends.

Clifford Ray was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset and former charter members of two previous churches.

After moving to Dayton Ohio in 1947, Ray returned to Somerset in 1969, to build a successful construction business. In addition to Abbott Builders, he was a member of the Home Builders Association, residing as president in 1977 and an active Mason for many years. Ray was also a partner in Lost Lodge Resort, and Somerset Cabinets. He owned real estate and helped develop Cumberland Heights near Lake Cumberland.
Clifford lived his life with gusto and enjoyed each day. He was a member of a bowling league and enjoyed a good game of Rook. He is remembered for his boating days on Lake Cumberland, teaching countless people how to ski. He loved fishing. At the age of 90, he still continued to walk regularly at the Somerset Mall. His latest hobby was collecting hats, which he displayed in his basement.

Ray loved God, family, friends and gospel music. His home was always inviting and filled with music. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation is scheduled for 11:00AM February 3, 2018 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 1:00 PM. Bro. John Wilson will officiate, and burial will be in the Eden Cemetery. We welcome all to attend to celebrate Clifford Ray Abbott’s life.

The family expresses appreciation and gratitude to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for their care and dedication in the last days of his life.
