Death of Mrs Abbink
Mrs Maria Catharine Abbink died at the home of her daughter, Mrs J H Uptmor, Tuesday morning early after an illness of several months duration. The deceased had been a sufferer 30 years with varicose ulcers of the leg. Several months ago she took to her bed with a complication of ailments ending Sunday in partial paralysis. She lingered until Tuesday morning when death relieved her sufferings. She was a good Christian women and her demise will bee mourned by a large circle of friends.
Maria Catharine Abbink, nee Thomas, was born on the 11th of June, 1823 at Peckelhelm, in the province of of Westphalia, Paderborn. When 15 years of age she came to this country with her parents and landed at New Orleans, from where they went to St Jacobs, Ind. Here she was married J G Abbink in 1857. To the union seven children were born, four girls and three boys. Four died in infancy and one son after reaching his maturity. Two daughters survive her, Mrs J H Gerdes of Oklahoma and Mrs J H Uptmor of this city, besides eight grandchildren. Her husband precede her to the better world about nine years ago after which she made her home with her daughter, Mrs J H Uptmor, until her death. Both her daughters were with her in her last days.
The funeral took place Wednesday morning from the Catholic Church and was largely attended.
