Christa was born in the Black Forest town of Sankt Blasien, Germany on August 16, 1936, where she grew up and received a beautician’s license and attended secretarial school. She met her husband Fahim Shaheed the summer of 1956 and they married in Nuremberg, Germany on September 5 that year. They moved to Alexandria, Egypt where they lived for eleven years and had four children.
Christa and her family eventually immigrated to the United States in 1968, first living in Salina, Kansas and then making her final home in Manhattan, Kansas where she lived the remainder of her life.
Christa is known in the Manhattan community as the caregiver for many of its young residents as she was a daycare provider for over 40 years. She was member of the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Kansas.
Christa is survived by her children and their families: daughter Hania (Brent) Hower, and granddaughter Christa Hower and grandson, Jonathan Hower; daughter Miriam Clark and grandson, Spencer Clark; son Peter (Gail) Shaheed and granddaughters Monica and Meredith and grandson Nicholas; and son George Shaheed. She is also survived by her sister Ingrid Huch of Karsruhe, Germany, and brother Walter Schlag of Plochingen, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fahim Shaheed (1998); sister Gerdi (2014).
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m., Thursday, August 11. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 12, at Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, Kansas 66502 with burial following at Sunrise Cemetery.
