Mr. Painting was retired from Illinois Central Railroad. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Clear Creek Golf Association. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Painting and Molly Golman Painting; three brothers; and a son-in-law, Judge Fowler.

He was survived by his wife, Flora Mae Painting of Summit, MS; three daughters, Sharron Flowers and husband George of Jackson, MS, Brenda Abbott and husband Joe of Summit, and Sue Fowler of Charlotte, NC; five sisters, Margaret Urie and Jane Fitzgerald, both of Denver, CO, Mary McKenzie of Magnolia, MS, Geneva McKlemurry and Geraldine Ritchie of McComb; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
